ONT Terminal Expansion Concept
ONT - Terminal Expansion Concept

The design of the new Terminal 3 is driven by a powerful yet simple idea: unification through form and landscape. Positioned between two existing terminals—T2 and T4, both defined by quarter-vaulted roofs—the new terminal embraces and amplifies this formal language by introducing a half-vaulted roof. This bold gesture acts as a spatial and symbolic keystone, anchoring the campus and completing a triptych of vaults that visually and experimentally ties all three terminals together.
Rather than inserting a separate object, the design of Terminal 3 integrates into the broader terminal landscape—not only in roof form but in ground-level connectivity. The new terminal is set apart from T2 and T4, separated by 800 feet of open space. Rather than treat this space as residual, the concept transforms it into a continuous linear greenbelt—a landscaped promenade that acts as a connective tissue across the terminal campus.
On either side of Terminal 3, this greenbelt forms porch-like outdoor rooms—generous, shaded, landscaped spaces that serve as thresholds between interior and exterior, movement and pause. These green spaces encourage walkability, orientation, and a new kind of airport experience—one that is both civic and ecological.
