BOS Terminal C
Boston, MA
Corgan
The redevelopment of Terminal C at Logan Airport replaces two aging hammerhead concourses with a unified, centrally focused concourse that transforms the traditional terminal experience. At the heart of the new design is a vibrant concessions hub—an open, communal space that seamlessly connects to the surrounding holdrooms. This central spine not only simplifies wayfinding and enhances passenger flow but also cultivates a sense of place through immersive architecture.
A defining feature of the terminal is its ceiling—conceived as a floating field of clouds. This overhead element softens the space, both visually and experientially, offering a calming counterpoint to the activity below. Composed of a dynamic array of hexagonal tiles, the ceiling evokes the natural geometry of a beehive or molecular structure, symbolizing connectivity, order, and organic form. These hexagonal panels undulate in elevation and materiality, allowing for integrated lighting, acoustic treatments, and natural light diffusion. The result is a canopy that feels both sculptural and functional—an overhead landscape that guides movement, frames key moments, and reinforces the terminal’s identity as a distinctly Boston gateway.
This architectural approach reflects a shift in airport design—from utilitarian infrastructure to immersive civic experience—placing the human journey at the center of the terminal’s form, flow, and feeling.
